Based on the persistent recommendations of my sister and friend (oh, Edna) I finally gave in and picked up Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” series.  To date I have read all of the published books.  The verdict?  Not too bad.  I didn’t find them as all consuming or obsession worthy as my aforementioned friends and family, but they were a nice break from the “Lord of the Rings” (I’m currently in the midst of Return of the King).  As for teams…I pick team Black.  Edward gets on my last nerve.  And the co-dependency scenario our beloved heroine seems to thrive on completely destroys feminist ideals established by our sister suffragettes.  It’s the 21st century for crying out loud.  Bella needs Edward?  Come on!  That’s so 1900’s.  Get that girl an identity and will of her own ASAP.  You know, before too many young impressionable female minds of today become tainted by this seemingly acceptable girl relies on boy notion.  Academic and cultural pollution of the most damaging sort.

* These are the books I am reading for fun, of course. I am also reading heaps of other legal texts I’m sure the lot of you have zero interest in. But, they are present and they are prevalent in my daily life.

Amazing.  Simply superb!  I wish I would have read it sooner.  Of course, my wish is not for want of trying.  I picked up “The Fellowship of the Ring” not less than three separate other times in my life.  I never could get past the Prologue, “Concerning Hobbits.” If you skip over, what I deem to be those dreadful pages, you will not be disappointed and you just might be able to finish the book.

I’m currently in the middle of “The Two Towers.”  It too is shaping up wonderfully.  I can’t wait to include this famous fantasy trilogy among my “read” pile.  Up Next – Dune.  Look out world.  I’ve got time, motivation, and a list of books to read longer than your Amazon Wish List.  Think about that.  :)

WizardofEarthsea

Admittedly, I love young adult literature. Sometimes I feel a bit goofy reading it in my mid-twenties, but I adore it none-the-less. I am also a science-fiction/fantasy buff. Acknowledging these two facts about my taste, it is a wonder that I had not stumbled across Ursula K. Le Guin’s “Earthsea Cycle” until now. The first book in this series, “The Wizard of Earthsea” is really an enjoyable tale. It’s a little Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings. I liken it to Mr. Potter because he’s a wizard, and to Tolkien’s epic because it takes place in another world very different from Earth. “The Wizard of Earthsea” is also much shorter than the books I compared it to, so if you want a quick romp that takes you into a fantastical world where evil is thwarted in 192 pages (leaving room open for furtherance of the story in the subsequent Earthsea series, of course) then this book would be great for you.
